It is a great privilege for the Khaje-Nasirodin Toosi (KNT) University and Khaje-Nasirodin Toosi Foundation, as the bearer of the name of the eminent scientist, Mohammad ibn Hassan Toosi (1201-1274) or better known as Nasirodin Toosi, to announce the 2nd forthcoming International Congress on The Works and Achievements of this prominent scholar. Khaje-Nasirodin Toosi was a prolific polymath writer: an astronomer, biologist, chemist, mathematician, philosopher, physician, scientist, theologian, and Marja Taqleed (Guider of the Believers).
He is most renowned for his achievements in astronomy by establishing an observatory in Maraghe (East Azarbajan-Iran), and many believe that he brought about a renaissance in astrophysics by doing so, while his scholarly manuscript in philosophy, mathematics, theology and poetry are not less outstanding. Many of his works have been translated to other languages including German, French and English and for centuries have been researched and taught worldwide. Also his standing in philosophy is so well recognized that the Europeans consider him as one of the most distinguished philosophers of the east. His recount of Euclidian geometry and almagest (al-kitabu-l-mijisti) of Ptolemy are also profound scripts His students like Allame Al Hilli recognized his prominence and named him “the teacher of humanity†and even today his stature is well appreciated worldwide; a 60-km diameter lunar crater located on the southern hemisphere of the moon is named after him as "Nasireddin" and a minor planet 10269 Toosi discovered by a Soviet astronomer in 1979 is named after him. Valuing such excellence and promoting respect for great scholars will indeed enhance proliferation knowledge. Therefore, the Khaje-Nasirodin Toosi University in cooperation with Khaje-Nasirodin Toosi Foundation is inviting all academic and scientific institutes and individual scholars to support and share this International and scientific event.
